The death sentences of nine prisoners—including one Afghan national—convicted of “premeditated murder and drug-related crimes” were carried out in the prisons of Gonbad-e Kavus, Arak, and Ghezel Hesar in Karaj.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, the executions were carried out on Sunday and Wednesday, April 6 and 9, 2025, respectively. Those executed for charges of “premeditated murder” included Sajjad Farahani, Behrouz Shirmohammadi (Paripour), age 27, Sajjad Akbari, Bahram Hedavandkhani, Salar Amirjalali, and Abolfazl Karimi. In addition, Mehdi Salan and two others—including an Afghan national—were executed for “drug-related offenses.”
Behrouz Shirmohammadi (Paripour), who had been sentenced to death in 2021 for “premeditated murder” following a street altercation, was executed on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, in Gonbad-e Kavus Prison.
Sajjad Farahani, also sentenced to death for “premeditated murder,” was executed on Sunday, April 6, 2025, in Arak Prison.
The death sentences of Sajjad Akbari, Bahram Hedavandkhani, Salar Amirjalali, Abolfazl Karimi (for murder), and Mehdi Salan and two others, including the Afghan national (for drug offenses), were carried out on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.
The identities of three of the executed individuals remain unknown.
