Masoud Farhikhteh, Teachers’ Union Activist, Sentenced to 6 Years in Prison

 

Masoud Farhikhteh, a teachers’ union activist, has been sentenced to six years in prison by Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Karaj.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, in addition to the six-year prison sentence, the court has also imposed a two-year ban on Farhikhteh’s right to leave the country, participate in social groups and organizations, and travel to the provinces of Alborz, Tehran, Qazvin, Lorestan, and Kurdistan.

The charges against Farhikhteh, which formed the basis for the sentence, include “propaganda against the regime” and “assembly and collusion with the intent to commit crimes against national security.”

Mr. Farhikhteh, a board member of the Eslamshahr’s Teachers Cultural Association, was arrested by security forces on May 1, 2023, at his home in Karaj and subsequently transferred to Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.

Masoud Farhikhteh, born in 1966, a resident of Eslamshahr in Tehran Province, is a teacher and a union activist. On August 2, 2022, he was sentenced by Branch 1004 of Criminal Court 2 of Tehran Province, presided over by Mansour Hashemian, to one year of imprisonment and 74 lashes on charges of “disrupting public order and peace.” Both penalties were suspended for a two-year probationary period.
