Ayoub Ghaibipour Arrested in Ahvaz

Ayoub Ghaibipour Hajivor, one of the detainees from the 2022 nationwide protests in Iran, was arrested by security forces in Ahvaz and transferred to an undisclosed location.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, a source familiar with the matter stated: “On January 5, 2025, IRGC intelligence agents, without presenting an arrest warrant, first went to Mr. Ghaibipour’s family home in Ahvaz. After learning that he was not at home, they proceeded to the gym where he was exercising and arrested him.”

It was further reported that “the IRGC intelligence agents also confiscated the gym’s CCTV footage. As of now, there is no information available regarding the whereabouts of this individual.”

In late 2023, Mr. Ghaibipour was sentenced by the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court to exile and imprisonment in Kerman prison on charges of “intentional arson, destruction of public property, and propaganda against the regime.”

This sentence was eventually overturned by the 20th Branch of the Supreme Court and referred back for retrial to an equivalent court. The Ahvaz Revolutionary Court subsequently re-sentenced Mr. Ghaibipour to 10 years in prison on charges of “waging war against God (moharebeh),” exile to Kerman prison, and an additional year of imprisonment for “propaganda against the regime.”

Ayoub Ghaibipour Hajivor, born on January 30, 1995, was previously arrested in November 2022 by security forces in Ahvaz in connection with the nationwide protests and transferred to Sheiban Prison in the city.
