Fereydoun Nabi, Iranian Kurd from Piranshahr, Arrested to Serve Prison Sentence

Fereydoun Nabi, an Iranian Kurd from Piranshahr and one of the detainees from the “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprising, was arrested after being summoned to the Piranshahr Enforcement Office and has been transferred to Urmia Central Prison to serve his prison sentence.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, on Thursday, January 2, 2025, Fereydoun Nabi was arrested to serve his 7 years and 11 months in prison sentence and was transferred to Urmia Central Prison.

Previously, on May 9, 2023, Fereydoun Nabi had been released temporarily from Naqadeh Central Prison after 286 days of interrogation and detention on a heavy bail of five billion tomans. He had spent 65 days in the Intelligence Office Detention Center in Urmia and 7 months and 11 days in Naqadeh Central Prison.

Mr. Nabi was sentenced by Branch 2 of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Amir Ojaghloo, to 43 months for “membership in one of the Kurdish opposition parties”, 38 months for “assembly and collusion” and 8 months for “propaganda against the regime.” This totaled 89 months of imprisonment, with the maximum sentence of 43 months enforceable.

In a separate case, Branch 102 of the Piranshahr Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Reza Ghahremani Saatlou, sentenced him to 6 months of imprisonment and a fine of 2.5 million tomans for “disturbing public order” and “insulting Khamenei.”

It has been reported that during the uprising, Fereydoun Nabi was taken hostage by intelligence agents to pressure his older brother, Fardin Nabi, into surrendering.
