On the morning of Saturday, November 2, 2024, the execution of Gholamali Shakerian, a 30-year-old prisoner from Ahvaz who had been sentenced to death for “premeditated murder,” was carried out in Sepidar Prison, Ahvaz.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Gholamali Shakerian was arrested about a year ago on charges of killing a friend after a verbal altercation and was subsequently sentenced to execution (retribution) following legal proceedings.
A knowledgeable source informed the Human Rights Organization of Iran that Shakerian was apprehended and convicted following an argument with the victim that led to the incident.
As of preparing this report, Iranian domestic media or official sources had not confirmed the execution of Gholamali Shakerian.
The lack of classification for degrees of murder in Iran leads to the application of the death penalty for any type of murder, regardless of severity or motive.
