Execution of Death Sentences for Three Prisoners with Drug-Related Charges at Karaj Central Prison

The death sentences of three prisoners, named Ali Akbar Akhaeir, Ali Moravatkermani, and Akbar Khalili, who were convicted of drug-related crimes, were carried out at Karaj Central Prison.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, these three men were executed on Tuesday, October 39, 2024. The identities of the executed prisoners, Ali Akbar (Mohsen) Akhaeir, Ali Moravatkermani, and Akbar Khalili, have been confirmed, and all three were sentenced to death for drug-related charges.

According to an informed source, Ali Akbar Akhaeir was arrested four years ago for drug trafficking and was sentenced to death after going through legal proceedings.

The execution of these sentences has not yet been confirmed by official sources or media within Iran.

Reports indicate that the number of executions related to drug crimes has increased in recent years. In 2023, the number of executions in this regard rose by 84% compared to 2022, reaching 471 cases.

The rising statistics of executions for drug-related charges in Iran have raised widespread concerns regarding human rights.
