Solmaz Hassan-Zadeh, the sister of Mohammad Hassan-Zadeh, who lost his life in the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement, has been sentenced to one year in prison for “propaganda against the Islamic Republic.”
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, the criminal court of Boukan recently issued this sentence due to her protest activities.
On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, Solmaz and her father, Ahmad Hassan-Zadeh, were arrested during a raid by intelligence forces at their family home, which coincided with her late brother’s birthday.
During the raid, she reportedly faced physical abuse, while her mother, Dayeh Azimeh, sustained severe injuries and was transferred to Boukan’s Dr. Gholipour Hospital.
Solmaz was temporarily released on August 13 after 14 days of detention, including an 8-day hunger strike, upon posting bail of 500 million tomans. She and her father had previously been detained on September 5 along with three friends while traveling from Boukan to Saqqez.
