Nasrin Shakarmi, mother of Nika Shakarmi—who died during the nationwide Woman, Life, Freedom protests of 2022—remains detained in Khorramabad prison without any clarification on her status, ten days after her arrest.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Shakarmi was detained on October 17, 2024, in Khorramabad. So far, no information has been released about the charges or reasons for her detention.

Aida Shakarmi, Nasrin’s daughter, posted a message stating that her mother is currently in Khorramabad prison in an unclear situation.

Nika Shakarmi, a 17-year-old from Khorramabad, lost her life during the 2022 protests in Tehran. Shortly after the incident, Tehran’s Behesht Zahra Organization cited “multiple injuries from blunt force trauma” as the cause of death.

Nasrin Shakarmi’s arrest comes as she continued to pursue her daughter Nika’s case. Her ongoing detention without formal charges has raised concerns about her situation and future.
