In the early hours of Tuesday, October 15, 2024, the execution of Naser Mohammadi (Hengrawani), a Kurdish prisoner from the village of Nichlan in the Somay-e Bradost region of Urmia, was carried out at the central prison of the city.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Naser Mohammadi (Hengrawani) had been arrested on charges of “premeditated murder” and sentenced to death by the judicial authorities.
So far, the execution of this sentence has not been announced by official sources or domestic Iranian media.
Naser Mohammadi Hengrawani had previously been tried and sentenced to death on charges of premeditated murder. The execution of this sentence without official notification has raised concerns about judicial transparency.
Under current Iranian laws, the lack of gradation in the punishment for premeditated murder leads to the issuance of a death sentence for all cases, regardless of the severity of the crime or the motive of the accused.
This issue remains a human rights challenge in Iran and has drawn significant criticism.
