The prison sentences for three members of Pakhshan Azizi’s family, a political prisoner sentenced to death, were upheld by the Tehran Appeals Court on Thursday, September 26, 2024.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, the one-year prison sentences for Aziz Azizi (father), Parshang Azizi (sister), and Hossein Abbasi (brother-in-law) were confirmed by the appeals court.
The three were convicted in a joint case with Pakhshan Azizi on charges of “assisting a criminal in evading trial and conviction.”
Pakhshan Azizi, an Iranian Kurd political prisoner, was sentenced to death on July 24, 2024, for “rebellion” and membership in one of the Kurdish opposition parties. At the same time, three of her family members were sentenced to one year in prison.
