Shahin Movadat and Sudabeh Mehdinejad, a Baha’i couple residing in Gorgan, were arrested by security forces on Monday, September 23, 2024.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, security forces arrived at the couple’s home with a court warrant. After searching the residence, they arrested the couple and transferred them to an undisclosed location.
During the search, authorities confiscated several electronic devices, religious books, and the home’s surveillance cameras. Sudabeh Mehdinejad had previously been arrested and sentenced due to her religious beliefs.
So far, no information has been released regarding the reasons for the arrest or the whereabouts of this Baha’i couple.
These arrests occur in the context of the repeated persecution of Baha’is in Iran, with many community members imprisoned for their beliefs.
