The Revolutionary Court has handed down heavy sentences, including long-term imprisonment and exile to remote areas, for eight protesters arrested during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprising.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, in a case titled “People’s Army of Iran,” the Revolutionary Court has issued severe sentences for eight protesters. Among these rulings, Nasim Gholami Simyari has been sentenced to six years in prison and 20 years of exile, and Hamidreza Sahlabadi to three years and seven months in prison and five years of exile.
In the verdicts for Nasim Gholami Simyari and Hamidreza Sahlabadi, it has been emphasized that, in addition to imprisonment, they are to be exiled to remote areas with the condition that they have no contact with others. These types of punishments are considered a form of additional torture, with the aim of isolating and further harassing these individuals.
Other defendants in this case have also received heavy prison sentences. Among these individuals are Amin Sokhanvar, Ehsan Ravazjian, Ali Herati Mokhtari, Hossein Mohammad-Hosseini, and Amir Shah Velayati.
It is noteworthy that Nasim Gholami Simyari, Hamidreza Sahlabadi, Amin Sokhanvar, and Ehsan Ravazjian have been held in Evin Prison for approximately 500 days and have been deprived of their basic rights during this time.
The issuance of these severe sentences, along with additional punishments such as exile to remote areas, reflects the Islamic Republic’s harsh crackdown on protesters and civil activists. These actions stand in stark contrast to basic human rights principles, including the right to freedom of expression, assembly, and the formation of political parties.
The international community and human rights activists must pay serious attention to this issue and take necessary actions to secure the unconditional release of these political prisoners and stop the repression of protests in Iran.
The sentences issued against these individuals are as follows:
– Amin Sokhanvar: Seven years and seven months in prison (four years to be served)
– Ehsan Ravazjian: Six years and seven months in prison (three years and seven months to be served)
– Ali Herati Mokhtari: Three years and six months in prison (two years to be served)
– Hossein Mohammad-Hosseini: Two years in prison, converted to a fine of 165 million tomans
– Amir Shah Velayati: Two years in prison, converted to a fine of 80 million tomans
– Hossein Ardestani: Acquitted
Three citizens who were not arrested are also part of this case, with one receiving a default sentence by Judge Iman Afshari in his absence:
– Shahin Zahtemaksh: 11 years in prison (five years to be served)
– Siamak Tadian and Farid Golshani: Cases still open.
