Two Kurdish prisoners from Shahin Dezh, who were previously sentenced to death for premeditated murder, were executed in Miandoab Prison.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, at dawn on Monday, September 9, 2024, the death sentences of two Kurdish prisoners from Shahin Dezh, named Soleiman Ghahremani and Feyzollah Hosseinpour, a father of three, were carried out in Miandoab Central Prison.
These two prisoners, who were arrested five and six years ago on charges of “premeditated murder,” were transferred to solitary confinement on Saturday in preparation for their execution.
A source familiar with the execution of the two prisoners told the Iranian Human Rights Organization: “Feyzollah Hosseinpour was arrested six years ago on charges of premeditated murder with a cold weapon during a dispute over farmland and was sentenced to death. Soleiman Ghahremani was also arrested five years ago on charges of premeditated murder and sentenced to death.”
Feyzollah Hosseinpour was from the village of Cheragh Abdol, and Soleiman Ghahremani was from the village of Hasan Lulan.
Both prisoners were sentenced to death by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
At the time of reporting, the news of the execution of these two Kurdish prisoners had not been announced in state media.
The execution of the sentences takes place despite repeated international calls for the abolition of the death penalty.
