یکتا میرزائی

Yekta Mirzaei, a sociology student at the University of Tehran, has been sentenced to a two-semester suspension from her studies due to what has been described as “failure to observe hijab and student decorum, and insulting national or Islamic symbols and sanctities.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, the student shared this news on social media, revealing that one semester of the suspension has been enforced, while the other semester has been suspended. The suspension was issued by the disciplinary committee of the University of Tehran.

This action comes amid a recent increase in disciplinary cases against students in Iran’s universities, particularly related to issues of hijab and political activities.

The suspension of students from their studies for disciplinary reasons is considered a restriction on the right to education and a violation of academic freedoms.
