Matin Hasani, one of those injured during the nationwide protests of November 2019, was transferred to Bukan Prison on Monday, August 26, 2024, to serve his sentence.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Mr. Hasani, who suffered an eye injury during the protests, was arrested on January 23, 2024, and released on bail a month later.
His trial was held on May 16, 2024, and he was ultimately sentenced to 31 months in prison for charges of inciting or provoking people to war and massacre and propaganda against the regime.
Mr. Hasani’s sentence was issued despite his defense in court. It is worth noting that Mr. Hasani is recognized as one of the injured during the November 2019 protests, raising concerns about the treatment of protesters.
The transfer of Matin Hasani to prison and the enforcement of his sentence once again highlight the continued repression of protesters and civil activists in Iran.
