On the morning of Monday, August 19, 2024, four prisoners were executed in Yazd Central Prison.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, the identities of two of these prisoners, who were Afghan nationals, have been confirmed as Ansar Eftekharedin and Mahmoud Salim. Both were sentenced to death for “premeditated murder.”
The other two prisoners who are Iranian Baluch, were Abdolraouf Shah-Bakhsh (Dehmardeh), 33, and Abdolrahman Damani (Gorgij), 34. They were sentenced to death on charges related to “drug offenses.”
It is worth noting that the execution of prisoners in Iran, particularly those charged with drug-related offenses, has seen a significant increase in recent years. Statistics show that in 2023, the number of executions linked to these charges increased by about 84% compared to 2022.
As the time of this report, no official national sources have confirmed the implementation of these sentences.
