At least twenty prisoners sentenced to death in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj are on the verge of execution. Five of these prisoners were moved from their wards to solitary confinement for execution on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, and the remaining fifteen on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, family members of some of these prisoners have contacted the campaign, expressing concern about their loved ones. Some have stated that prison officials have summoned them for a final visit.
These prisoners have previously been sentenced to death for non-political crimes, including murder and drug-related offenses.
The charges against them include the following: at least five of the prisoners have been sentenced for drug-related offenses, four for murder, and four are from Afghanistan.
According to obtained information, seven other prisoners in solitary confinement are Sunni Muslims and face the imminent risk of execution.
The Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners is currently investigating the details of the cases and the charges against these individuals.
