On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, coinciding with the birthday of Mohammad Hassanzadeh, one of the victims of the recent protests in Bukan, his family faced a raid by security forces on their home.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, security forces violently arrested Mohammad Hassanzadeh’s father and sister and confiscated their personal belongings. Solmaz Hassanzadeh, Mohammad’s sister, had previously been arrested on September 27, 2023, along with several others.
On September 5, 2023, Ahmad and Solmaz Hassanzadeh, Mohammad’s father and sister, were summoned to the Bukan Intelligence Office and interrogated.
Mohammad Hassanzadeh, 28, was killed by gunfire from security forces during the public protests in Bukan on November 16, 2022. He had previously lost his vision due to a pellet gun injury to his eye.
The Hassanzadeh family was attempting to hold a small ceremony in memory of Mohammad’s birthday, but their efforts were thwarted by the intervention of security forces and the arrest of family members.
These events highlight the ongoing repression and harassment of victims’ families from the recent protests in Iran.
