Soheil Habibi Kohneshahri, a civil activist residing in Salmas, was arrested on Friday, July 5, 2024, after being summoned to the intelligence office of this city.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, reliable reports indicate that Mr. Habibi Kohneshahri, who had previously been summoned to the Salmas intelligence office by phone, was arrested and taken to an unknown location after appearing at the office late on Friday, the last day of voting.
A source close to the family confirmed the arrest and stated that Mr. Habibi had been a member of the campaign team for one of the candidates in the recent presidential election.
The source added, “He was summoned by phone to the intelligence office and went there late on the last day of voting. His summons and arrest are likely due to his comments about one of the candidates or the previous government.”
It is noteworthy that Soheil Habibi Kohneshahri had previously been arrested in November 2022 due to his civil activities.
So far, no information has been obtained about the charges against him or his whereabouts.
