Three Labor Activists Sentenced to Two Years in Prison for Forming a “Labor Union”

Mohammad Iran-Nejad, Nasrollah Amirloo, and Morteza Saeedi, three labor activists, have each been sentenced to two years in prison.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, these individuals have been charged with “forming a group called the labor union with the intention of disrupting national security.”

The sentences were issued by the Second Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Shahriar and were communicated to the labor activists on Saturday, June 22, 2024.

The court session to address these charges was held on May 27, 2023.

Mohammad Iran-Nejad, Nasrollah Amirloo, and Morteza Saeedi, along with several other labor activists, were arrested by security forces on April 15, 2022.

Mr. Saeedi and Mr. Amirloo were released on bail on May 9 and May 2 of the same year, respectively, while Mr. Iran-Nejad was released after about a month.

On June 26, 2022, Mohammad Iran-Nejad was sent to Evin Prison to serve a two-year and nine-month sentence for another case. He, along with several other prisoners, was transferred to Rajai Shahr Prison during the Evin Prison fire, and was released from this prison in March 2024.
