On Saturday, June 8, 2024, the trial session for Narges Mohammadi, the human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, was held in Branch 29 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court without her presence.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Mostafa Nili, Ms. Mohammadi’s lawyer, announced this news on his personal page, adding that the charges of “propaganda against the regime” were addressed in this session, and he responded to them on her behalf.

Mr. Nili further stated that the allegations against Ms. Mohammadi included her “remarks about Dina Ghalibaf and her opinions on boycotting the parliamentary elections.”

Narges Mohammadi, who has previously faced multiple sentences, was sentenced in December of last year to 15 months in prison, two years of exile, two years of travel ban, two years of prohibition from social activities, and two years of prohibition from using a smartphone on charges of “propaganda against the regime.”

Ms. Mohammadi, who has been sentenced to over 12 years in prison and 200 lashes in total, was released from Zanjan prison in October last year after serving about five and a half years.

She is currently facing multiple open cases and has repeatedly been supported by international human rights organizations for her peaceful activism.

In 2023, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Narges Mohammadi by the Norwegian Nobel Committee “for her courageous fight for freedom and human rights over three decades.”
