The execution of at least six prisoners, including a woman, who were sentenced to death in separate drug-related cases, was carried out in Urmia Central Prison.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, the executions took place in the early hours of Saturday, May 18, 2024.

The identities of the six prisoners, all convicted on drug-related charges, have been confirmed as Parvin Mousavi, 53, from Maragheh; Ramin Lawandi, 29, from Urmia; Mansour Naseri, 45, from Bukan; Yousef Saeedi-Chahre, 30, from Urmia; Parviz Mirghasemi, from Urmia; and another prisoner with the last name Jabali, from Tabriz.

A knowledgeable source provided details about the duration of their imprisonment, stating, “Parvin Mousavi had been imprisoned for four years, Ramin Lawandi for four years, Mansour Naseri for six years, Yousef Saeedi for four years, Parviz Mirghasemi for four years, and Jabali for five years before being sentenced to death.”

The Iranian Human Rights Organization had previously reported the transfer of three prisoners, including Parvin Mousavi, to solitary confinement and had warned of the imminent risk of their execution.

As of the time of reporting, the execution of these six prisoners has not been announced by Iranian media or official sources.

Iran, having executed at least 22 women in 2023, holds the grim record of being the world’s leading executor of women. Parvin Mousavi’s execution marks the ninth execution of a woman in 2024. Additionally, since 2010, the execution of 219 women in Iran has been documented and registered.
