Execution of a Female Prisoner in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad

اعدام

At dawn on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, a young woman previously sentenced to death for the murder of her two young children was executed in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, this 33-year-old mother, who had taken custody of her children after separating from her addicted husband, cited economic and social problems as the reason for her action.

The execution of this woman once again draws attention to the issues faced by women in Iran, particularly divorced and single mothers, as well as the social and economic challenges in the country.

Some human rights and civil activists have described this execution as “cruel and inhumane,” calling for an end to executions in Iran, especially those of women and individuals with psychological issues.
