Execution of a Baluchi Prisoner in Bam Prison

سامان مالک‌زهی (جرنگیده)

On Saturday morning, May 11th, 2024, the death sentence of Saman Malekzahi (Jorangideh), 28 years old, was carried out in Bam Prison, Kerman Province.

According to the Campaign for Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Malekzahi was arrested about four years ago on charges related to drug offenses and was sentenced to death by the Bam Revolutionary Court.

Informed sources stated that security forces had promised Malekzahi’s family that if they surrendered a weapon, his death sentence would be annulled, and he would be released with bail. However, after surrendering the weapon, Malekzahi ‘s death sentence was executed without his family’s knowledge.

The execution of Malekzahi is another example of widespread human rights violations in Iran, particularly against the Baluch minority.

Many Baluchis are sentenced to death for drug-related crimes, while often deprived of access to fair trials and proper detention conditions.

The use of the death penalty as a tool for suppression, especially against minorities, contradicts fundamental principles of human rights.
