Iraj Tobeheiha, Teacher Activist, Sentenced to Imprisonment, Exile, and Fine

Iraj Tobeheiha (Najafabadi), a member of the Teachers’ Union in Najafabad, was sentenced by the Revolutionary Court of this city to imprisonment, exile, and payment of a cash fine.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Mr. Tobeheiha has been sentenced to a total of six years in prison, two years of exile, and payment of a cash fine on charges of “insulting the leadership,” “anti-regime propaganda activities,” “disruption of public order,” and “spreading lies.”

This verdict comes at a time when Mr. Tobeheiha is among the well-known activists of the teachers’ union in Iran and has repeatedly raised his voice in protest against the economic and professional situation of teachers and in defense of their rights.

It is not yet clear whether Mr. Tobeheiha will object to this verdict or not.

• Two years imprisonment on charges of “insulting the leadership”
• One year imprisonment on charges of “anti-regime propaganda activities”
• One year imprisonment on charges of “disruption of public order through participation in illegal gatherings”
• Two years imprisonment on charges of “spreading lies through telecommunication systems”
• Two years of exile to the Dehsalm district of Nahbandan city in South Khorasan province
• Payment of a fifteen million Tomans cash fine

It should be noted that Iraj Tobeheiha has had a history of detention and conviction before this incident.
