Two Retirees Arrested Following Protest Rally in Ahvaz

بازداشت

Following the organization of a protest rally by retirees on the April 30th, 2024, two individuals named “Ahmad Nochian, retired teacher” and “Mohammadzaman Kamrava, retired from the Social Security Organization” were detained by security forces and transferred to an undisclosed location.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, these arrests took place after the conclusion of the retirees’ rally in Ahvaz city.

The precise reasons for the detention of these two citizens and their whereabouts are still unknown.

The Iranian Retirees Council, while condemning these arrests, has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of these two retirees.

Retirees in Iran face various challenges regarding their rights. Some of the most significant challenges include:

1. Low pensions: Retirement pensions in Iran are generally much lower than the cost of living. Many retirees are forced to work part-time or rely on assistance from their children to cover living expenses.

2. Lack of adjustment to inflation: Retirement pensions are rarely adjusted to keep pace with inflation rates. This means that retirees’ purchasing power decreases over time.

3. Healthcare issues: Many retirees struggle to access adequate healthcare services.
