On Saturday April 27th, 2024, the death sentence of three prisoners named Sohrab Hokmabad, Amir Mohammadi, and Davood Namiyari was carried out in Tabriz Central Prison.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, these three prisoners, who had been sentenced to death on charges related to “drug trafficking,” were separately tried and sentenced in individual cases.
Sohrab Hokmabad: Detained three years ago on charges of drug trafficking and sentenced to death.
Amir Mohammadi: Detained two years ago on charges of drug trafficking and sentenced to death.
Davood Namiyari: Detained three years ago on similar charges and sentenced to death.
On Thursday April 25th, 2024, these three prisoners, along with two others, were transferred to solitary confinement for execution. However, the other two prisoners were returned to their cells for unknown reasons, and the death sentence was only carried out for Sohrab Hokmabad, Amir Mohammadi, and Davood Namiyari.
As of now, the news of the execution of these three prisoners has not been announced by Iranian domestic media or official sources.
Over the past four years, the execution of prisoners on charges related to “drug trafficking” has consistently and significantly increased. In 2023, compared to 2022 when 256 individuals were executed on drug-related charges, there has been an 84% increase, with 471 executions recorded with this charge.
