Raheleh Rahemipour, a 71-year-old civil activist serving her sentence in Evin Prison, continues to be deprived of adequate medical attention and hospitalization.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Ms. Rahemipour, who suffers from various illnesses including a brain tumor, is unable to move without tremors due to her advanced age and physical ailments. Despite the need for specialized medical care, she is still deprived of being sent to the hospital and receiving treatment.
Raheleh Rahemipour was transferred to the hospital in early 2024 due to her deteriorating health condition and after two days and undergoing a heart angiography, she was returned to prison.
This civil activist was arrested in November of 2019 along with Jila Karamzadeh Makvandi and transferred to Ward 2-A of Evin Prison.
After a while, Ms. Rahemipour was temporarily released.
Raheleh Rahemipour, along with other defendants in the case, was charged with “assembly, collusion, and propaganda against the system.” Her trial was held in May 2020 and she was sentenced to six years in prison. Ms. Rahemipour was arrested again in November 2023 after appearing in Evin Courthouse and was transferred to Evin Prison to serve her sentence.
The deprivation of Raheleh Rahemipour from receiving adequate medical care is a violation of human rights and Iran’s domestic laws.
Human rights organizations have repeatedly called for immediate attention to the situation of this civil activist and other sick prisoners.
