Branch three of the Evin Courthouse has issued a summons for Vafa Ahmadpour, the renowned protest rap singer known as “Vafadar.”
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Mr. Ahmadpour’s charges include “propaganda against the regime,” “spreading falsehoods,” and “disturbing public opinion.”
The release of a music track in support of the nationwide protests in 2022 has been cited as one of the instances of these charges.
Due to insufficient evidence, a non-prosecution order has been issued regarding the charge of “gathering and collusion to commit crimes against domestic/foreign security”
Vafadar was detained by security forces in February 2024 and was released on bail after two weeks.
The American Pen Association had condemned the arrest of this singer in a statement and demanded his freedom.
Vafa Ahmadpour is known for his protest music.
