Gholamreza Gholami Kondazi, a board member of the Teachers’ Trade Union in Gilan and a teachers’ right activist in Fars, has been granted an 18-day leave upon posting bail.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Mr. Gholami Kondazi, who had previously been sentenced to five years of imprisonment in a first trial, was sentenced to two years and six months of imprisonment in a retrial.
He was arrested while seeking a permit for the annual meeting of the Teachers’ Trade Union at the Shiraz Governorate on October 5th, 2023.
This teachers’ trade union activist had previously been detained during a cultural protest gathering in Shiraz on May 12th, 2022. He was released on bail on August 21th, 2022.
Mr. Gholami Kondazi’s initial charges included social upheaval and conspiracy to undermine national security, as well as propaganda activities against the regime.
Teacher union activists have condemned this verdict and called for the cancellation of unfair and illegal sentences against imprisoned teachers.
