Pakhshan Azizi, a Kurdish woman activist and former political prisoner from Mahabad, was accused of “membership in the country’s opposition groups” by the fifth investigation branch of the Evin Security Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, during the last few days, the case of Pakhshan Azizi was sent to Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, headed by Iman Afshari, after the charges were settled.
Pakhshan Azizi, a graduate in social work, who has spent the last six months and ten days in detention and under intense pressure, has been deprived of her basic rights, including access to a lawyer.
On December 11th, 2023, this political prisoner was transferred to the women’s ward of Evin prison, known as the detention center of the Intelligence Department, after the end of the interrogation period.
Pakhshan Azizi was arrested by the intelligence department in Tehran on August 4th, 2023.
Previously, she was arrested by the security forces on November 25, 2008, during the protest rally of Kurdish students of Tehran University against political executions in Kurdistan on November 16th, 2009. After four months of detention, she was temporarily released on bail.
This female Kurdish activist had left Iran for some time under the pressure of the intelligence agencies and had been staying in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq for the past few years.
