According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Saeed Azizi, a politically accused with dual Iranian-Swedish nationality, has been sentenced to five years in prison in a verdict issued by the Revolutionary Court of Tehran.
According to the verdict issued by the twenty-sixth branch of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran headed by Judge Afshari, Mr. Azizi was sentenced to five years in prison for conspiring and colluding to commit a crime.
Imprisoning a person for political reasons, especially when person has dual citizenship, is a violation of human right. This action is not only an injustice to Mr. Azizi, but also harms Iran’s relations with the international community.
Saeed Azizi, who had just traveled to Iran from Sweden, was arrested by the security forces at his home in Tehran on November 12th, 2023.
This 60-year-old Iranian-Swedish citizen, who is suffering from prostate cancer, according to his defense lawyer, cannot bear prison. Recently, he fell down the stairs in prison and his physical condition worsened.
Earlier, the Swedish Ministry published a statement announcing that a man with Swedish-Iranian citizenship was arrested in Iran in 2023 without any specific reason.
