Reza Aghdasi was transferred to Taleghani Hospital due to complete deafness in one ear and severe hearing loss in the other ear. Hearing loss in the other ear can have serious consequences for Mr. Aghdasi’s physical and mental health. Lack of access to proper medical services can aggravate these problems.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Reza Aghdasi, a labor activist and a prisoner in Evin prison to serve his sentence, was transferred to Taleghani hospital due to the deterioration of his hearing problems.
A source close to the family of this citizen, while confirming this news, said: “Mr. Aghdasi was taken to Taleghani Hospital. After conducting tests, the doctors determined that one of Mr. Aghdasi’s ears is completely deaf and his other ear has only 20% hearing ability. This political prisoner has a serious problem in understanding words. In Taleghani hospital, prison officials did not allow him to meet his wife.
Reza Aghdasi, a fired worker of Iran Khodro, was arrested after appearing in the third branch of the Evin Prosecutor’s Office and was transferred to Evin Prison on October 24th, 2023.
In December 2023, he was sentenced to imprisonment by the twenty-sixth branch of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge Iman Afshari. He was sentenced to 8 months in prison for the charge of propaganda against the regime, and three years and seven months for the charge of assembly and collusion with the intention of committing a crime against the country’s security. He was convicted by considering his previous detention time.
Mr. Aghdasi’s personal home was previously searched by the security forces during “Woman Life Freedom” uprising last year, and the officers seized a number of his and his family’s personal belongings.
During the Iran-Iraq war, Mr. Aghdasi lost hearing in one of his ears due to a ruptured eardrum.
