The death sentence of Mohsen Mazloum, Mohammad Faramarzi, Wafa Azarbar and Pejman Fatehi, four Kurdish political prisoners, was executed in Ghezel Hesar prison in Karaj on Monday January 29th, 2024.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, the Islamic Republic of Iran-affiliated media published a report on the execution of four Kurdish political prisoners named Mohsen Mazloum, Mohammad Faramarzi, Wafa Azarbar, and Pejman Fatehi in Ghezel Hesar prison in Karaj on Monday January 29th, 2024.
On Sunday, January 28th, 2024, the families of these four Kurdish political prisoners, after 19 months of being completely unaware of the fate of their children, were allowed to meet them for the first and last time in Evin prison.
After a short meeting with their families, these four political prisoners were transferred to Ghezel Hesar prison in Karaj to execute the death sentence.
The death sentence of these four Kurdish political prisoners was issued by the Revolutionary Court on September 18th, 2023. The Supreme Court rejected the appeal and confirmed their death sentence.
These four political prisoners were sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court for the charge of “collaboration with Israel”, 10 years in prison for the charge of “forming and managing a group with the aim of disrupting the security of the country” and five years in prison on the charge of “membership In the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan”.
After more than a year and a half of their detention and enforced disappearance, the families of these four political prisoners were informed of the death sentence that issued to them.
Masoud Shamsnejad, the lawyer of four Kurdish political prisoners, after referring his client’s case to the Supreme Court, announced on his X page; “After filing a request for retrial with the Supreme Court of the country on behalf of my clients of Wafa Azarbar, Mohammad Faramarzi, Mohsen Mazloum and Pejman Fatehi, the request was not accepted due to the lack of attachment of the original and appeal documents. Generally, in the security files the issued documents are not given to the lawyers.”
These prisoners had assigned lawyers and until now their families do not know who these lawyers are and they have not contacted the families. The families introduced Mr. Masoud Shamsnejad, as their children’s lawyer to the judicial institutions, but Mr. Shamsnejad has not been able to view the case and receive any response from the judicial institutions during the past year and a half.
Mohsen Mazloum from Mahabad, Hejir (Mohammed) Faramarzi from Dehgolan of Sanandaj, Wafa Azarbar from Bukan and Pejman Fatehi from Kamiyaran, four members of the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan were arrested by the Islamic Republic security forces in the village of “Yingjah” of Urmia Somai region on July 23th, 2022. During the past year and a half, the families did not have any information about the whereabouts and fate of their children, and these prisoners were deprived of the right to access to a lawyer or to contact and meet with their families.
According to Tasnim’s report, on the morning of Monday January 29th, 2024, the death sentence of four Kurdish political prisoners was executed in Ghezel Hesar prison in Karaj. These four prisoners, whose identities have been confirmed as Mohsen Mazloum, Pejman Fatehi, Wafa Azarbar and Hejir Faramarzi, were sentenced to death on charges of “combat and espionage for Israel”.
