Ghazaleh Zare, an activist for working children rights, was sentenced to three years in prison by the Islamic Republic judicial system on Monday, January 22nd, 2024.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, this children’s rights activist was sentenced to prison by the second branch of the Khorramabad Revolutionary Court on charges such as “propaganda against the Islamic Republic” and “forming groups and factions with the aim of disrupting security”.
Two years of this 3 years imprisonment sentence is applicable for Ghazaleh Zare according to the Consolidation of Sentences Law.
Also, as an additional punishment, she has been sentenced to attend five book analysis workshops under the title “Unlimited Game”.
Ghazaleh Zare was arrested by the Intelligence Department on July 26th, 2023. After a month of detention, she was temporarily released on bail.
The sentence issued against Ghazaleh Zare shows the continuation of suppression and destruction of freedom of speech and civil activities in Iran. This verdict sends a clear message to all human and civil rights activists in Iran that if they continue their activities, they will face repression and punishment.
