The death sentence of a prisoner named Bahman Zairfar, who was sentenced to death on charges related to “drugs”, was executed in Ahar prison on May 8th, 2023.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, on Monday, May 18, 1402, the death sentence of a man was performed in Ahar prison on Monday May 8th, 2023. The identity of this prisoner who was sentenced to death on charges related to “narcotics” has been confirmed as 29-year-old Bahman Zairfar.
Bahman Zairfar was the brother of another prisoner named Naghi Zairfar, who was executed on charges related to “drugs” in Maragheh prison on January 2nd, 2024.
An informed source regarding the execution of this prisoner told the Iranian Human Rights Organization: “Bahman Zairfar was arrested two years before the execution on the charge of carrying drugs.”
After 8 months, still the execution of Bahman Zairfar has not been announced by the Iranian media or official sources.
The execution of prisoners who have been executed on “drug” related charges has increased continuously every year for the past three years. Compared to the first six months of 2022, when 91 people were executed on drug-related charges, the year 2023, has seen a 126 percent increase and 206 executions have been registered with this charge.
