The death sentence of a prisoner named Asghar Barzegar, who was charged with “narcotic drugs”, was performed in Yazd Central prison.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, the death sentence of a man was executed in the central prison of Yazd on the morning of Thursday, January 4th, 2024.
This prisoner, whose identity has been confirmed as 32-year-old Asghar Barzegar, was sentenced to death on charges related to “drugs”.
An informed source about this prisoner told the Iranian Human Rights Organization: “Asghar Barzegar was arrested and sentenced to death three years ago on charges of carrying drugs.”
The execution of this prisoner has not announced by the Iranian media or official sources as of writing this news.
The execution of prisoners with “drug” related charges has increased continuously every year for the past three years. Compared to the first six months of 2022, when 91 people were executed on drug-related charges, this year has seen a 126 percent increase and 206 executions have been registered with this charge.
