Zeinab Jalalian, a Kurdish political prisoner in Yazd prison, is denied access to medical services. This prisoner, who is in the 16th year of her imprisonment, has been threatened by the security agencies with “If you want to have medical services, you must express your remorse in a video.”
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Zeinab Jalalian, a Kurdish political prisoner from Mako, who is spending her 16th year imprisonment in Yazd prison, has been denied access to proper medical care due to the objections of the Ministry of Information.
According to an informed source, the Ministry of Information has conditioned the providing of medical services to Zainab Jalalian to televised confessions and expressions of remorse by her. Recently, this political prisoner while handcuffed and foot cuffed was interrogated by the Ministry of Information and the intelligence interrogators threatened her and told her until she expresses remorse, she will be denied access to medical services and also will be denied transfer to clinics outside the prison for the medical cares that are not available in prison.
This informed source added: Zainab Jalalian’s eyes have been seriously damaged due to the denial of access to medical services and her eyesight is in serious danger, so she has to use the glasses of other prisoners to study.
This informed source stated: In addition to vision problems, this political prisoner suffers from oral thrush, asthma, kidney and digestive problems and is in a poor condition.
This informed source announced: Zeinab Jalalian has rejected all the requests by the Ministry of Information’s interrogators to express remorse.
Zainab Jalalian was moved from Khoi prison for unknown reasons on the 8th of May 2019, and on April 27th, 2020. On May 2nd 2020, she was transferred to the quarantine ward of Qarchak Varamin prison, where she contracted the corona virus.
Zainab Jalalian was transferred from Qarchak Varamin prison to Kerman prison on June 25th, 2020. Later, she was transferred to Yazd prison on November 9th, 2020.
Earlier, Deniz Jalalian, Zainab Jalalian’s sister, had informed Kurdpa about her sister’s condition: Zainab suffered a lot due to illness in prison and was deprived of medical treatment. The security forces had informed her that if she agreed to cooperate, she would be given medical treatment and she would be entitled to temporary leave.
This political prisoner was arrested in March 2008 in Kermanshah, and for months was held in city intelligence department solitary cell and endured severe physical and mental torture. On December 2008, she was charged for “action against national security” and “warfare through membership in Hayat Azad Kurdistan Party (Pajak)” by the Islamic Revolution Court and was sentenced to death.
Zainab Jalalian’s death sentence was confirmed in the appeals court in May 2009. This sentence was changed to life imprisonment in December 2011. After that, Zainab was transferred to Shahr Khoi prison.
