Closing Rajaei Shahr Prison in Karaj, Seven Political Prisoners Were Transferred to Evin Prison

The closure of the Rajaei Shahr prison in Karaj is in progress, and accordingly, seven political prisoners named Saeed Masouri, Afshin Baimani, Hamzeh Sawari Lafteh, Matlab Ahmadian, Luqman Aminpour, Mohammad Shafie and Saman Saidi were transferred to Evin Prison.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, in continuation of the Rajaei Shahr Prisons’ prisoners transfer, at least seven political prisoners were transferred to Evin prison from the Rajaei Shahr prison in Karaj.

An informed source told our reporter: ” Saeed Masouri, Afshin Baimani, Hamzeh Sawari Lafteh, Matlab Ahmadian, Luqman Aminpour, Mohammad Shafie and Saman Saidi, political prisoners in the Rajaei Shahr Prison in Karaj, were transferred to Evin Prison, Ward Eight on Wednesday, August 2nd, 2023. During the transfer, they were deprived not allowed to take their personal belongings, including their clothes and medicines.

Saeed Masouri was arrested on suspicion of being a member of the People’s Mujaheddin of Iran Organization in Dezful city on January 8th, 2001. He was finally sentenced to death in Tehran Revolutionary Court in 2003 on charges of “combat”, but in the end his sentence was reduced to life imprisonment.

Also, Afshin Baimani was arrested on September 5th, 2000. He was sentenced to death by the Tehran Revolutionary Court on the charge of “combat through cooperation with the People’s Mujaheddin Organization”, which was eventually reduced to life imprisonment.

Hamze Sawari Lafteh was also arrested at the age of 16 on September 2nd, 2005. He was sentenced to death by Ahvaz Revolutionary Court on charges of “corruption in the land, war and action against national security.” Finally, the sentence was reduced to life imprisonment.

Matlab Ahmadian was arrested on October 5th, 2010. Mr. Ahmadian has been sentenced to 30 years in prison by the Revolutionary Court on the charge of “warfare through membership in one of the opposition groups”.

Saman Saidi (Yasin) was arrested during nationwide protests in Tehran on October 2nd, 2022. He was tried in the General and Revolutionary Court of Tehran and sentenced to death on the charges such as “combat, gathering and collusion to commit a crime and act against national security”. After some time, this ruling was overturned in the Supreme Court and his case was referred to the same branch for re-examination.
