Security police officers in Bushehr province arrested a citizen and handed him over to the prosecutor’s office. This citizen has been arrested on the charge of “insulting Islamic holy things and insulting ethnic groups in Iran” in cyberspace.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, on Thursday, July 13th, 2023, Colonel Soham Salehi, Deputy police chief of Bushehr province, arrested a virtual space activist living in Alishahr in Bushehr province on charges of (insulting Islamic holy things) and (insulting the ethnicities in Iran). He noted about the filing and referral of the accused’s case to the Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office of that province.
The Deputy Chief of Police of Bushehr province, explaining this news, said: “According to the surveillance carried out by the Police Intelligence Organization of the province, it was found that a person with a known identity is creating divisive content between ethnicities and religions in the country, and the issue was specially placed on the officers’ agenda.”
He further added: “Through intelligence and cyber measures, the accused was identified at the desired address and was arrested with the coordination of the judicial authority in Alishahr city and transferred to the police headquarters.”
The deputy police commander of Bushehr province further noted: “The accused was introduced to the judicial authority for the next steps, and then he was sent to Bushehr Central Prison on bail.”
