Mehdi Mohammadifard, 18 years old, has been sentenced to death twice by the first branch of the Sari Revolutionary Court. He is one of the protesters arrested in the nationwide protests in Nowshahr, who was also arrested earlier by the security forces.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Mehdi Mohammadifard was arrested during nationwide protests in Nowshahr on September 30th, 2022. According to the ruling of the Revolutionary Court, he has been sentenced to death twice due to his role in the protests on the September 21st in Nowshahr, on charges of “corruption in the land” and “warfare.”
He has also been sentenced to a total of seven and a half years in prison for other charges such as “propaganda against the regime” and “incitement to disrupt the security of the country” and “insulting the leadership” and “assembly and colluding to commit a crime against the security of the country”.
The court considered Mehdi Mohammadifard to be one of the leaders and the main agents of directing and planning the protest rally in Nowshahr on Wednesday September 21st, 2022. It is stated in the verdict that five people were killed in this protest rally.
According to the available statistics, September 21st, was one of the bloodiest days of nationwide protests and a large number of citizens were killed on this day.
Among those killed on this day was “Hanane Kia”, a 23-year-old woman who was killed during the protests in Nowshahr.
