The health officer of Hall No. 8 in Karaj Central Prison was transferred to solitary confinement. Reason for transfer was his negligence and giving the wrong medicine to a prisoner, which led to his death.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, a 25-year-old prisoner died in hall eight of Karaj Central Penitentiary after using the wrong medicine on March 28th, 2023.
An informed source told our reporter: “In Hall 8, which is a hall for special crimes, a 25-year-old man died on March 28, due to medical malpractice and giving the wrong medicine, and the person in charge of this prisoner’s health was transferred to solitary confinement.”
There is still no information about the identity of this prisoner who died due to the wrong medicine, but the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners is gathering more information on this matter.
Amnesty International also published a report in April 2022 confirming that at least 96 deaths occurred in Iran’s prisons due to medical malpractice in the last 12 years. West Azerbaijan with 28 cases, Tehran with 16 cases and Sistan and Baluchistan with 15 cases have the highest death rate due to “arbitrary deprivation of the right to life”.
Earlier, Behnam Mahjoubi, a prisoner who was arrested during the violence against Darvish Gonabadi, died of drug poisoning after enduring a difficult period of imprisonment that was accompanied by torture and spending time in mental hospital.
