The trial of Hassan Abbasi, a journalist, will be held in the criminal court of Kerman. He had previously been charged with defamation and spreading lies.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners; Hassan Abbasi, a journalist, was summoned to the Kerman Criminal Court by a notification.
In this notification, Mr. Abbasi was asked to appear in Branch 1 of the Kerman city Criminal Court, regarding the charges of “defamation” and “spreading lies” on August 6th, 2022.
The indictment of this citizen’s case was issued by Branch 1 of the Kerman Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office on April 13th, 2022.
This case has been opened with the complaint of Mohammad Reza Poorabrahimi Davarani, the representative of Kerman in the parliament. The representative’s complaint was followed by questions in the form of a critical note addressed to him, and after the meeting, this member of the Press House was asked to appear in the first branch of the prosecutor’s office in the coming days to present his defense.
Hassan Abbasi, a member of the Tehran Journalists’ Union, had previously been arrested, following a complaint from the Hormozgan governor on November 26th, 2019. The journalist’s criticism of the authorities had already caused a great deal of controversy in Hormozgan and Tehran provinces.
