Security agents in Saqez city arrested Osman Ismaili, a labor activist from Kurdistan Province. Mr. Ismaili was arrested and imprisoned several times in the past. During this recent arrest of this labor activist, his personal items were confiscated as well. No information is available on the charges that led to his re-arrest.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Osman Ismaili, a labor activist living in Saqez, was arrested by security forces in the morning of Saturday, April 30th, 2022. This labor activist, during his labor and peaceful activities, has been repeatedly confronted by the security organs of Saqez city with different cases.
According to the report, security agents searched Osman Ismaili’s home and confiscated some of his belongings. The reasons for the arrest and the charges against this labor activist are not known.
It should be noted that Osman Ismaili, along with Mahmoud Salehi, a labor activist, in a joint case was acquitted by Branch 1 of the Saqez Revolutionary Court of “propaganda against the regime” on February 12th, 2022.
On June 9th, 2021, this labor activist was released from Saqez Central Prison, after serving a prison sentence and paying a fine on charges of propaganda against the regime by taking photos of protest rallies and publishing them in cyberspace.
After enduring 25 days of imprisonment and a daily deduction of 100,000 Tomans from the amount of the fine, Mahmoud Salehi was released. Osman Ismaili, after 25 days of imprisonment and deduction of 2.5 million Tomans from the fine, paid the remaining amount and was released from Saqez prison.
Osman Ismaili and Mahmoud Salehi were summoned to Branch 3 of the Saqez Revolutionary and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office on May 16th, 2021. After they were informed of the charges and the fine and arrest was issued, they were sent to Saqez prison.
Also on May 19th, 2021, Osman Ismaili was acquitted in another case on charges of
” disturbing public order” and “disturbing public opinion” by Branch 5 of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Saqez Revolutionary Court and restraining order against him was revoked.
On May 3rd, 2021, Osman Ismaili was summoned to Branch 5 of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Saqez by a text message.
Osman Ismaili is one of the long standing civil and labor activists in Kurdistan province. His record of civil activities includes frequent summonses, interrogations, arrests, trials and imprisonment.
