The detention of Sunni prisoners in the Rajai Shahr district of Karaj led to protests in wards that lacked a heating system. The prisoners gathered in front of the guard’s door.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, in recent days Sunni prisoners detained in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj gathered in front of a guard office to protest the heating system, which ended with a threat from Vali Mohammadi, the prison’s internal director and head of the fourth ward.
According to the report, the ward lacks a proper heating system, and due to the severe winter weather and cold, these prisoners endure inhumane conditions.
Prisoners living in this ward gathered in front of the Officer’s door on Friday, January 21st and Saturday January 22nd, to protest the problem. Their protest ended on Saturday with a threat from Vali Mohammadi, the prison’s internal director and director of the Consolation Four.
A source close to the family of one of the detainees told HRANA, that the prisoners’ protest action took place after their numerous unsuccessful letters to prison officials: “Mr. Mohammadi has insulting conduct toward the Sunni prisoners in Rajai Shahr Prison and these prisoners are under psychological pressure.”
“Prisoners have repeatedly reported Mr. Mohammadi’s ill-treatment and insults, to the Protection and Inspection Services with no result, and each time the prisoners were blamed.”
“In addition, prison officials do not approve of outside clothes and accessories that are provided by the prisoners’ families, which is why they do not have proper clothing in the cold,” the source added.
