The statement, which was also signed by the “Working Group on Enforced Disappearances”, referred to the detainee’s detention in solitary confinement, lack of access to a lawyer during interrogation, and stressed that the verdict against the detainee was based on “armed uprising against the government”, but the same sentence emphasized that “Mr. Ghorbani was never armed.”
Mr. Ghorbani’s lawyer, Saleh Nikbakht, had previously stated that Mr. Ghorbani had been sentenced to death on the charge of ” rebellion” and said: “It is against the Islamic Republic, but my client has never made a confession in this regard, and the only reason to prove this accusation was the claim of the Sanandaj and Kamyaran intelligence services.”
