A Turk (Azerbaijani) civil activist was arrested by security forces in Tabriz, East Azerbaijan Province, and transferred to an unknown location.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, on Sunday, October 4, 2020, following a raid by security forces on the private residence of Zeinal Tanhaei, this Turk (Azerbaijani) civil activist residing in Tebriz was arrested with a beating and search of his home and transferred to an unknown location.
The arrest was said to have been taken place without a court order and with the beating of the civil activist.
After arresting Zeinal Tanhaei, security forces ransacked his home and confiscated some personal belongings, including his and his wife’s cell phones.
As of this writing, the exact reason for his arrest, the institution that arrested him, and the whereabouts of this civil activist are unknown.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, a number of Turk (Azerbaijani) citizens were detained following a call for a protest rally against the actions of Armenian forces in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
In recent days, following the escalation of clashes between Republic of Azerbaijan and Republic of Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, some Turk (Azerbaijani) citizens have staged protests in several cities against what they call “occupation of Armenian state” and following that, the process of detaining Turk (Azerbaijani) citizens in these cities continues.
