The Gachsaran Revolutionary Court sentenced retired teacher Alireza Kafaei to 6 months in prison, which has been suspended for 1 year.
Alireza Kafaei, a retired teacher and head of the Gachsaran Islamic Association of Teachers in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province (southwestern Iran), was sentenced to 6 months in prison on Saturday, September 19, 2020, on charges of “insulting the leadership”, during a court hearing held at the Gachsaran Revolutionary Court, which the sentence has been suspended for 1 year.
Alireza Kafaei was summoned to the Revolutionary Court of Gachsaran on Wednesday, September 19th (2020), after receiving an electronic notification from the director of the Gachsaran Revolutionary Court.
It is said that the sentence of 6 months imprisonment has been suspended for 1 year due to the old age of Mr. Kafaei and the situation of Covid-19 pandemic.
According to Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Alireza Kafaei was arrested at his workplace in Gachsaran, in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, by IRGC intelligence agents on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, and after being briefed on his allegation, was transferred to the detention center of this city’s Intelligence Department. Following the interrogation, he was relocated to Gachsaran Prison.
This retired teacher and the head of the Gachsaran Islamic Association of Teachers around Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, who had apprehended at his workplace by IRGC intelligence agents, was temporarily released from Gachsaran Prison on bail on Wednesday, January 30, 2019.
The retired teacher, who suffers from heart disease and diabetes, was arrested for publishing critical articles and issues on social media, sources had told the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners.
On that day, the Campaign published the news of the arrest of this teacher living in Gachsaran in a report entitled “A retired teacher arrested in Gachsaran”.
A credible source had told the Campaign: “IRGC intelligence agents went to his residence to arrest him, but because he was not at home, they went to his workplace in the Shahid(martyr) Tajgardoon educational complex and arrested and then transferred him to the Prosecutor’s Office.
