Reports published in the human rights media indicate that Soheila Hijab, a political prisoner in Qarchak prison in Varamin, was attacked by an ordinary prisoner and taken to the prison medical center following severe bleeding from the attack.
According to media reports, on August 6th, 2020, an ordinary prisoner being held in Qarchak prison on drug charges attacked Soheila Hijab, a political prisoner, with a broken glass, and struck her several times in the abdomen and injured her severely.
Due to the severity of the bleeding, the political prisoner is said to have been transferred from the quarantine ward to the prison health center and from there to medical centers outside the prison.
The reason for this prisoner attack on Ms. Hijab is still unknown.
On Wednesday, March 18th, 2020, this civil activist and a lawyer from Kermanshah was sentenced to total of 18 years in prison by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, presided over by Judge Moghiseh, on charges of “propaganda against the regime”, “gathering and collusion”, “disturbing public opinion with intent to riot”, “forming a group for women’s rights”, and a “request for a referendum and a change in the constitution”. The verdict was upheld by the Court of Appeals on Saturday, May 23rd, 2020.
This civil activist, after going to the appeal court to check on her case, was arrested and transferred to Qarchak Prison “with physical violence” by IRGC intelligence agents.
