According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, the campaign has received reports that tens of prisoners in the Greater Tehran Prison have been infected with the Covid-19 virus.
It has reported that the Deputy Chief of Health of the Greater Tehran Prison transferred a large number of prisoners, some of whom had previously had coronavirus, to the prison Fifth ward. After this measure, the ward 5 witnessed an increase in the number of patients with Covid-19, so that the estimated number of patients has reached 160.
Due to the lack of control over the spread of virus, the prison authorities transferred some of the patients to the gymnasium and the library of the 5th ward of this prison.
At least three prisoners are said to have died so far due to the deteriorating condition, and at least five others have been transferred to out-of-prison medical facilities.
The lack of control over the spread of corona has doubled the concerns of civil society activists about the situation of political prisoners held in the ward of the Greater Tehran Prison.
Mostafa Abdi, Abbas Dehghan, Kianoosh Abbaszadeh, Mohammad Habibi, Soheil Arabi, Zartosht Ahmadi-Ragheb, Shapur Ehsani-Rad, Amir Hossein Moradi, Saeed Tamjidi, Mohammad Rajabi and Mohammad Sharifi-Moghaddam are among the political and ethical prisoners held in the ward 5 of the Greater Tehran Prison.
